Home-Made Beef Meatballs with Tomato Sauce and Spaghetti

Again we were watching Gordon Ramsay’s Ultimate Cookery Course and my boyfriend took a keen interest in the meatballs that were made on the show, however Ramsay made Meatballs in Fragrant Coconut Broth, now as a hater of coconut I obviously refused to make this. However, although I am not that big of a meat eater I was not going to shy away from the challenge of learning to cook something new. So I racked my brain, not very hard and came up with the idea of making Home-Made Beef Meatballs with Tomato Sauce and Spaghetti. I thought this would be a good recipe as I also get the chance to make my home-made tomato sauce which for some reason I just love doing as I can always experiment with the spices and flavours that I make! This is one of my new favourites and here is the recipe;

  • 2 Red Onions Finely Chopped
  • 4 Garlic Cloves Finely Sliced
  • 2 tsp of Dried Chilli Flakes
  • 500g of Minced Beef
  • 75g of Fresh Breadcrumbs
  • 3/4 tbsp of Milk
  • Salt and Pepper to Season
  • 1 tin of Chopped Tomatoes
  • 1 Red Pepper Finely Chopped
  • 180g of Spaghetti
  • 8 tsp of Sweet Paprika
  • 5 tsp of Mixed Herbs
  • 3 tsp of Hot Paprika
  • 2 tsp of Coriander
Home-Made Meatballs Ready to Chill

  1. First prepare the meatballs by frying the one of the onions and half of the garlic in oil in a hot pan
  2. Cooke for 2 minutes and then add half of the chilli flakes and cook for a further 3 minutes until soft and lightly coloured
  3. Place the mince in a large bowl and add salt and pepper to season
  4. In another bowl moisten the breadcrumbs with the milk
  5. Pour the breadcrumb mixture and the fried onion  into the mince and combine well
  6. With wet hands shape the mince into large balls about 4cm wide
  7. Place on a lightly greased tray and chill for 30 minutes until firm
  8. Whilst your meatballs chill you can prepare the sauce by frying the rest of the onion and garlic for 5 minutes
  9. Then add the red pepper and chilli and season with salt and pepper
  10. After a further 3 minutes add the paprika, herbs and coriander and cook for 1 minute
  11. Finally add the chopped tomatoes and simmer for 30 minutes stirring regularly
  12. When the meatballs are chilled, set half aside for freezing (to enjoy another day)
  13. Cook your spaghetti in a pan of boiling water with a splash of olive oil for 8 minutes
  14. At the same time fry the meatballs in a frying pan with hot oil for 8/10 minutes until cooked through
  15. Then drain your spaghetti, place tomato sauce and meatballs on top and serve
Home-Made Beef Meatballs with Tomato Sauce and Spaghetti

This recipe makes enough meatballs for 4 but as I only ever cook for 2 this recipe is for 2 servings of Home-Made Beef Meatballs with Tomato Sauce and Spaghetti, so just freeze half of the meatballs and use them whenever you fancy!  Another great tip from Ramsay of course and I can tell you that I did this and made the same recipe again and it tasted just as great as when they were fresh, just make sure you leave enough time for them to defrost properly. Obviously you could use them to made a different meal or even for a grilled sandwich, I just could not resist making this again as it was truly delicious!

The coconut version really doesn’t sound that good. Would you like to have a look at my meatball in tomato sauce experiment?
